The Best of Family Life

by Brenda Hill
(Stourport)

Does your life seem completely meaningless without work? Are you always engrossed with your work and do your family and friends always complain that they rarely get your company?

If this is your predicament, then you might have become a work alcoholic even without realizing it. Too much obsession with work can cause tensions in your family and might rupture other nurturing relationships in your life. If you work too hard, it might also cause serious health hazards.

Here are few steps which can stop you from being a work alcoholic. It is important for you to understand your priorities. Your work might be justifiably important for you. Achievements in your professional life can be a source of great satisfaction and happiness. But that does not mean that you should neglect the other equally important aspects of our life.

Your family and friends deserve your company and your attention. If you do not work hard in building and nurturing personal relationships, they might very well fall apart. You might later regret your actions but it might be too late to make amends.

Therefore, it is essential that you show equal commitment and sincerity towards your personal life. It is important to immediately stop your habit of working too hard. If you keep on postponing your resolution, then you might never be able to realize it. So, if you want to stop being a work alcoholic, you should act now.

You can start with small things. You can postpone a small chunk of work which is not immediately due for tomorrow. Gradually you can move towards larger things and more important projects. It is also important that you do not get overwhelmed by deadlines.

Some people have the tendency to become overly anxious about fulfilling a task, and they try to finish off as much work as possible so that they are not hurried at the end. While this is an effective strategy, you can not really finish all the work well before the deadline. You need to pace out your work and do as much as it is humanely possible.

It is important for you to focus on your hobbies. If you genuinely want to spend time doing something else rather than working, chances are you will find out ways to do so. This could turn out to be your biggest incentive. Being a work alcoholic can cause many unwarranted difficulties in your life.

Therefore, it is important that you take a balanced approach towards your life and your work. This will definitely pay in the long run and will help you become a more efficient worker and a better person.

The Perfect Place For Families

by Joel Halimi
(Israel)

Disney world is the perfect place for family fun. Summer time is coming and we always take the kids to Disney world on there summer vacation. This will be my youngest daughters first year at Disney.

She is thirteen months old and loves cartoons. Her brothers and sisters have told her how much fun she will have. They enjoy the "honey I shrunk the kids" ride the most. This is a 4-D interactive ride/show.

As a parent I love the Epcot center of Disney world. It is the perfect combo between learning and fun for children. Fast track ride is the perfect example. It takes you step by step through the process of how cars are tested for our safety.

At the end of the course you are in the actual crash car heading directly to into a wall. At the last section the wall opens and it turns into a mini roll coaster. The kids learned something and they had a lot of fun.

In these tough economic times that we live in, it is so important we do not take away our children’s fun. Money comes and money goes but good family fun will last forever in the minds of your children and you!

Things that memories are made of

by Melissa
(Norfolk)

Family traditions are the things that memories are made of. More importantly, they are the glue that keeps families connected. And while many families may share many of the same traditions, each family has their own way of celebrating those traditions and that is what makes each family unique.

My children are now adults but they fondly reminisce about our own Christmas tradition from their youth. While many other families opened their gifts on Christmas Eve, our family did so on Christmas morning, after Santa came.

They were, however, allowed to open one gift from Mom and Dad on Christmas Eve. Knowing that they would always choose to open the biggest gift bearing their name, I would buy each child a new pair of pajamas and wrap it in a box that was bigger than any other under the tree with their name on it. And bless their greedy little hearts, that was the box they opened on Christmas Eve.

That first holiday, I encouraged them all to wear them to bed and the next morning, they were all sporting their new holiday outfits in every picture! The pajamas became such a tradition that, as they got older and the presents got bigger, they would ask if they had chosen the “right” one to open on Christmas Eve. It is a tradition that they can’t wait to share with their own children.

Those Family Moments I Cherish the Most

by Diane Bauer
(Anguilla)

Having a great time!

Having a great time!

A big worry I used to have was wondering what quality time looked like with a little one. When children are older, they are easier to hang out with. For starters you know that they understand you – and you can understand them!

Their vocabulary is considerably more elaborate than the average one year old! I’ve been shocked to discover how simple it is to spend quality time with a little boy as he has developed from being a newborn to a toddler. So what is it we do together? We LOVE reading together. We spend hours looking at books and reading them together – he points out (using sounds) everything he recognizes.

We love to go for walks – and he’s taught me about stopping and smelling the roses, the daffodils, the shrubs; pretty much everything. He’s taught me how to appreciate the simple things in life. How else have we always enjoyed quality time together? Quite simply, by cuddling together on the sofa, listening to him share about what he’s thinking about. Those are the moments I cherish the most and make me realize that the most important thing I can do as a mum is just listen to my child.

The Way To Have Family Fun!

by Peter Deveraux
(NM)

One of the best ways to spend good, bonding family-fun time is with a family game night.

Board games and card games are one form of entertainment that can be enjoyed by adults and children of all ages. Pick one night a week to set aside for Family Game Night. Include a variety of board games, such as Yahzee, Scrabble, or Monopoly - or card games such as Go Fish, Old Maid, or Crazy 8s

Every week mix up what type of games you play to keep it interesting. Pick teams and play against one another, or play as individuals.Include the younger players by letting them team up with a parent or older sibling.

Not only will these games provide lots of laughs and smiles for everyone but they can be educational at the same time. Not only is this a great way to bring the family together but it is also inexpensive.

These games should not be hard to find and should not be too much of a strain on the pocket book. Many of these games, along with a wide variety of others not mentioned, can be purchased at your local mall, Wal-Mart or even the Dollar General. Enjoy!

What is family life?

by Barbs Coleman
(New Mexico)

Often this question comes up in our minds. Is it just the kids part of it or is it fun too?

Well, take my experience and I would say family life is a combination of emotions, love, kids, humor and lots of adjustments. If you cannot adjust, family life is not for you.

When one gets married, he/she has lots of expectations from the other partner but one should not forget that you get only when you give. You have to be patient, understanding and accept your partner's views and opinions.

Love between the partners is an essential part but if there is no understanding, love cannot withhold marriage. Once there is love and affection, then come the kids who are an essential part of family life. Kids bring a lot of humor, fun and freshness in your life. When you have kids, you become a kid yourself and relive your childhood.

Your kids remind you of your golden days as a child. You laugh at cartoons with your kids, enjoy kids movies, play lots of games and forget about your busy life. Overall, a family life needs to be a balance between kids and married life.
