Funny Birthday Quotes for Those Special Family Days

Funny Birthday Quotes

I think my thirteenth birthday was my favorite. It was the age of becoming a teenager. So, my parents really wanted it to be special. My first stop was at my Mother's parent's house. My Grandmother and Grandfather Rayls had cake and ice cream and presents waiting for me.

The one gift I was hoping for was a tape recorder, an old device used to record you voice on magnetic tape - yes, I know, I must be really old right now. I guess I am. Phyllis Diller, a comedienne from the 1960's, once said, "I know I'm getting old when my back goes out more than I do." That is so true.

The second stop to my thirteenth birthday celebration was my Father's parents' house, in the country. This was even better. My Grandparents there were of a more sturdy stock, and my Grandfather and mother had plenty of wise things to say.

They only had clothes for me as presents, but the meal and cake were fantastic. When I acted a bit disappointed with my presents, my Grandfather announced, "You know, Lewis Carroll, the guy who wrote Alice in Wonderland, once said that '...there are three hundred and sixty-four days you might get un-birthday presents...and only one for birthday presents, you know'" That really didn't help my case at all.

The best part of my birthday wasn't over yet. My big Uncle Terry, my Dad's brother, came by to celebrate. He already had a plan. He was going to take me and my cousins and siblings snow sledding! I already knew the huge hill he was planning on going to. We all got bundled up and headed out with our sleds and skimmers. Now I can recall a quote from a famous person named Robert Orben. Mr. Orben was a joke writer for many years, who later wrote for the American President Gerald Ford. He was quoted as saying, "The best birthdays of all are the ones that haven't arrived yet!" If that means the birthdays get better, then we are all in for a treat!

The sledding was wonderful fun. I remember my huge Uncle riding down a little sled on his stomach. Somehow the sled got stuck in the snow so he flew off over it on his stomach, with his arms and legs help up real high so he could get some more distance. It was hilarious.

He collected quite a bit of snow in the process, which now leads me to think of another birthday quote, "A grownup is a child with layers on", which was mentioned by Woody Harrelson, a popular American actor. I guess that's true. My Uncle was easily 50 years old when he did this, and although childish, was great fun to watch.

Finally, birthdays can be the milestone of how far you've gotten in your growing up. How did it feel when you turned six, or even eleven? Didn't you feel older and bigger? Of course you did. And that's the fun of birthdays, you are getting older and more grown up! Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, said, "You have to do your own growing no matter how tall your Grandfather was." How true! How you grow is all up to you.

Here's a funny birthday quote from Dave Barry; Thanks to modern medical advances such as antibiotics, nasal spray, and Diet Coke, it has become routine for people in the civilized world to pass the age of 40, sometimes more than once.
