Such Memorable Happy Days
My husband and I were newly married when I thought I had the stomach flu. It turned out that it wouldn't go away, so I bought a home pregnancy test kit. It tested positive. We still couldn't believe it, so I bought another one, and again it tested positive.
Well the long and short of it proved after I went to see my doctor that I was definitely pregnant. The labor was difficult because of stress. My mother was going through cancer treatments, and we were told there was nothing they could do, but give her treatment for pain, because she had pancreatic cancer.
In June of 1984 I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Nine days later we brought her home, and went straight to my Mom and Dad's. My Mom was in bed, but every time I brought the baby over she would perk up. I would lie the baby next to her in bed, and both my mom and dad's eyes would shine.
I did this everyday until my mom was able to get out of bed. For the 1 1/2 years my mom survived my daughter brought us all such joy. We bought our first home, and on some days mom and dad would babysit while my husband and I worked.
We would come home, and supper was on the table where the five of us would enjoy our meal together. Dad would work around the house while my mom made curtains, decorated, and took care of her grand baby. Those were such memorable happy days, and when my mom passed away in March of 1986 it was very hard to let her go, but at the same time I was so grateful that I got to share my first born child with her, and to see Mom's happiness and the shine in her eyes!
