Those Precious Moments With Your Family

Ah, Those Precious Moments

"Ew!" gasps Auntie Sal pointing to the scene while the gathered relatives are talking amongst themselves. Toddler Tyrone and his trusty puppy both found the new, tall, alive, living room tree and were making natural use of it.

What to do? Kiss, pat, or bite those cherubic cheeks? There are to be sure, plenty of these precious moments, but who remembers each and every one? "Yeah, I shouldda had my camera," we lament. The stepping stones of family life—the traditional moments—first steps, first tooth, lost tooth, first words—many of them just slip and slide away with the daily frenzy of keeping up with that growth and change. Sure, you can make some photo albums, or some scrapbooks, even caption those books. But still there is always more—brimming and pouring out that is outrageous, embarrassing, too cute and sweet you get a thrill and chill, so innocent it brings you to your knees, or so devilish you blush. You just can't put those in a simple precious moments album.

There are the new experiences. Florida kid Lailee visits Massachusetts in the blizzard of 2010—goes to make a snow angel, falls over backwards and then... "Did you see that, I totally disappearded in the snow!" she cries.

Questions and Answers
There are the questions...oh, my. 7 year old Sasha asks her parents before going to sleep every night, "When I wake up tomorrow morning, are you going to be my real mom and dad, alive, not wearing a fake skin or costume?" and she gives each parent a skin pinch just to reassure her of the real flesh. Hmmm shades of body snatchers or zombies invading your house too?

How about all those precious explanations of how things work En route to school, Gavin explains that little ants are sitting in a control room in the traffic light, regulating the light changes. "Give them a little sugar," he patiently instructs dad, "and they'll give you the green light." It pays to be kind with treats to those in authority—so Gavin's way ahead of the game.

And not to forget about the excuses for the hidden cookies or treats or the purloined gum that stuck Rachel's hair to the couch as she was trying to hide with the evidence of the sticky wad.

Embarrassing Moments
Who hasn't dreamt of being naked in class or other outrageous embarrassments? Well, some of them do happen, when we least expect it. Daddy was with the kids at his favorite thrift store, and he and Stephanie picked out a cool hat for him—just for father's day. Putting it down on the floor for a moment so as not to crush it in his full basket while he tried on a shirt in the mirror, another patron snatched up the hat and walked away. Daddy finished his looking glass experience and went to pick up his hat—saw the empty space and searched around the store for it, finding it with the other patron. An exchange of words ensued, the store manager intervened and pronounced the hat was rightfully his, but the disgruntled patron began to threaten to call for the police. The father's day card daddy received from Stephanie the next day plainly stated, "Dear Daddy, you almost went to jail, but I still love you." And she proudly showed off and read her card to each and every friend and friend's mom, who came over for the next two weeks.

Share the Laughter
The things that are really laughable, precious and endearing to us are not so much the Ringling Brothers and the Barnum and Bailys, but our own little clowns, like Peter with the red clown nose stuck over his whole face doing the waddle with the droopy pants that fall down around his tiny ankles!

And let us not forget that we adults too have our instants of genius and wit, and our own "Candid Camera" moments too, if only we could remember them. Well, here's a place that you can use to express your own inner Einstein or Seinfeld, and laugh at yourself along with others! It's the perfect place just when you have that flash of genius—or when that egg is fresh on your face—to share it for posterity.

How can we remember all the precious moments of our lives? Check on our site, and there they are—the best true stuff, ready to jog your own experiences of the same darndest things. And give you another laugh, and another word of wisdom from the peanut gallery and their newly wizened moms and dads. And, here's the place just for you—waiting for the additions to the best encyclopedia there is of your own unique and endearing family moments.

So check us out—share your stories, and read others here often. You might be surprised to find that your family is as zany and "normal" as all the others on the block!
